Turning around the corner, Beatrice almost ran into the group of nerds that were making their way out. She jumped back, in shock thinking it could have been a group of cheerleaders making their way through the halls. But she smiled in relief as it was her familiars: Eileen, Hobbs and Clarie.
"Hello, Bea," Eileen greeted cheerfully, "Did you happen to see Melvin?"
The blonde nerd girl pouted and shook her head, "Nope, didn't see him. Though I don't think he'd be out of his current state of mind any time soon."
Rolling her shoulders, Eileen sighed, "Figures. Boys, right?" The girls shared a quiet laugh, while Hobbs adjusted his glasses awkwardly and cleared his throat loudly. Embarrassed, the larger girl quickly added, "Well, except for you, Hobbs. You're quite the exception."
Shuffling her feet around, Beatrice looked up, "Where are you guys headed for? I've got a free period block since Dr. Watts isn't feeling well."
Eileen and Hobbs gave each other a look before returning to answer their friend's question, "Just up for some stuff. We'll tell you on the way." Before they could even move an inch away from their current position, a voice behind behind them kept them squarely in their place...
... but it certainly wasn't out of fear, more out of familiarity and politeness, rather.
"Thank goodness!" The group turned around to see William, walking up to them with what looked to be a relieved sigh, "You guys are possibly the last bastion of sanity out there!"
Fixing her glasses, Clarie added, "What do you mean?"
William sighed, "Everyone's been talking about the dance, and I mean everyone. Even Mr. Galloway was going on in about after he finished lessons today."
"Oh wow, even they have it bad," Eileen giggled, "Can't blame them though, it does sound rather exciting."
"Please tell me you're joking," William dropped his shoulders, and here he thought his friends wouldn't have been dragged into this popular mess, "It's just a silly excuse for the jocks to brag to us... and then stuff us in lockers or give us swirlies."
"Well," Hobbs spoke up, "With what Earnest has planned, we might just be able to make it exciting for us as well." He didn't change his tone of voice or expression, which more than anything, made his statement all the more interesting. Especially when William noticed the uneasy expression Eileen was now wearing.

Under any other circumstance, Clarissa would have been having a heart attack. Standing in a group of more than, well, just herself usually made her super uncomfortable. While it would have been a stretch to say the nerd was comfortable, Clarie was at least more secure. After all, they were all her fellows nerds. They understood how it felt to be shoved in a locker and taunted all day long.
Clarissa's mind came back to the conversation after Hobbs mentioned something about a plan.
"A plan?" She questioned quietly. The underclassmen hadn't heard anything about a plan, but then again she was very new to group. Her eyes glanced from each person in there little group, looking for any kind of recognition, attempting to figure out what kind of plan this was. The uneasy expression Eileen wore didn't make little Clarie feel any better. The only one who really seemed to know what was going on was Hobbs.
((Short post is short and crappy -_- I apologize. I really just wanted to push the plot forward a bit, but I'm not confident I know the other characters well enough to use them. Sorry!!))

((Twas a good post! Now it's my turn to help bring this baby back! ;D))
Hobbs came out of his shell long enough to reply to Clarie. "Oh, you haven't heard either?" He lowered his voice enough so that nobody outside the little nerd-gathering would be able to hear. "Earnest and the others are planning a series of pranks to pull on the night of the dance when the jocks are distracted."
This took the un-knowing nerds by surprise. They should have sent out a memo or something, this was big news! While the nerds mulled this over in their heads, Hobbs spoke again. "I guess Earnest will want to see everyone to discuss matters for the night."
Before anyone could reply, Clarie cleared her throat and spoke up in a small voice. "Um, I am all for discussing this, but perhaps we could move to the observatory? We may become easy targets here, it is a little worrying." The genuine nervousness in her voice alerted all the other nerds to their not-very-good position in the hallway, and so the group started towards the observatory.
The others may have been interested to hear what was to happen on the night; Eileen, however, was happy to have the discussion stopped for now, at least.

Judith retreated far away enough not to get caught to watch the scene between Roxy and Peanut unfold - Peanut knew of her friendship with Roxy and also her strange way of getting things done. Judith had never really been a sucker for romance before, but perhaps because Roxy was her friend, or because of the blonde's obvious infatuation for the greaser, Judith really, really wanted this to happen.
After all, how Roxy's eyes lit up every time Peanut came into conversation, which was quite often now, was really quite something. Almost as good as how furiously Roxy was able to blush. Which, coincidentally, was happening now.

Peanut nearly tripped over the small English girl and her friend as he came out of the Mathematics room. He was always the last one in and the first one out; bikes were more fun than algebra or finding degrees in shapes. Who does that anyway?
His eyes traced down to Roxy's timid, red face.
Oh god. He rolled his shoulders and ran his fingers through his hair. Gotta keep it cool, dames don't like seeing guys who can't act tough. He looked over the small girl and her friend, "What'dya want?" Play it off, keep it cool.
Roxy had opened her mouth to say something, probably an excuse to get her out the situation she landed in, but before she could verbalize her thoughts, Judith put a hand on her shoulder, "WELL!" The taller girl said rather loudly, "I'd LOVE to stay and chat, but hey, duty calls."
"D-D-Duty calls?" Roxy looked horrified at the fact that her friend was abandoning her. She needed morale! She needed support! She needed someone to physically carry her away from the conversation should be freeze up. No! No! No! "Li-Like what?"
"Y'know, Rox... stuff."
"Stuff?"
"THANK YOU for understanding," Judith patted her friend on the shoulders in appreciation, "Good ol' Roxy, ain't she a doll, Peabody?" She shot the tall greaser a look, "So kind and understanding to other people's STRANGE needs. You're too good Rox," her sudden enthusiasm scared the students who were unfortunate witnesses to her outburst and there was a clear radius around the trio.
"WELP! GOTTA GO!" "NO WAIT!"
And off Judith went, disappeared into the crowd of students, never to be seen again. At least until next period.
Roxy whimpered, she wasn't sure what to do. They had flagged down the greaser, now what? Oh god, what if he's going to find her annoying now? What if he writes a nasty update about her on his blog? Ugh ugh ugh! What if he starts avoiding her? What if--
"Your friend's weird."
"I... beg your pardon?" She was stunned, her big round eyes blinking, "You mean Judith?" It almost seemed like a normal conversation!
"Man, I don't know why you hang around her."
"She's a very nice person, once you get past her eccentricities, of course."
Like an anvil, heavy awkward silence crashed between the two teenagers. Peanut was eyeing for an escape, he needed an excuse and quick. What was he going to say to Roxy anyway? "Hey doll, I think you're cute, wanna take a ride on my bike sometime?" Pfft, no way. Only girls like Lola bought that kind of crap. Roxy seemed classier, like the sort of girl you'd take out to a proper restaurant and bring her a bouquet of flowers.
But she was just as confused and shy as the greaser before her. He probably had much more interesting and manly things to do, like swing around a wrench or fix a car or something equally testosterone-filled. He wasn't going to listen to her medical journal ramblings or her complaints about TV show doctors.
Peanut's ears had picked up on interesting bits of conversation, a habit he picked up. Juicy gossip that was exchanged in whispers at the back of the class were more interesting than discussions on Shakespeare's writing style.
"I heard Amy's going to the dance with Chaplin!" "I know! I haaaate that! Ugh he's so hot that's not fair!"
"I heard Beatrice has a date for the dance." "Are you kidding? Who?" "Kay!"
Argh the dance, the dance, the dance, was that anyone ever talked about now?
Apparently so, because he blurted out, "Who you going to the dance with?"
He was surprised as she was, more so when she responded with, "N-No one...?"

"Good," Peanut said, before he could catch himself. He fake-coughed into his fist, then dramatically turned his back on the little English girl. The Greaser could feel his face burn, but he mentally scolded himself, Be cool, man, be cool.
"Pick you up in front of your dorms, then? 'Round six?"
So cool. He wished he could have lit a cigarette then - cigarettes looked cool. And it would help stop the trembling in his hands.
Peanut had hoped that the little blonde would answer quickly, so that he could strut away, all nonchalant-like, like Marlon Brando. Instead, he found himself standing there with his back turned for an awkward half-minute. Passing students glanced curiously at him. Behind him, Roxy said nothing, and he feared that he may have offended her, somehow. Or maybe she was afraid of him. Did he play up the tough-guy act a little too much?
Finally, Peanut chanced a glance over his shoulder. Roxy stood, knees buckled, clutching her books so tightly to her chest, it looked as though she were trying to suffocate herself. Her face was flushed an impossible shade of red, blue eyes wide as dinner plates. For a moment, Peanut thought for sure that she would bolt, but then she began to bob her head, wordless, over and over like a mechanical toy.
Yes. She said yes. It may have been out of fear, but it was a definite yes. Peanut couldn't help but feel a little guilty, but hey, now he'd have a chance to show her that he wasn't all that scary. He threw her a smile, said, "Great. See you then." then turned and swaggered off to his next class.
((HERPNDERPN Thought I'd bring this back, while The Assignment is on hold (with scg being out of town) Also, I really like where this is going.))

((YES PROF.)) Peanut swaggered, and as he swaggered, Judith moved towards Roxy in a way that did not look entirely human owing to the arm-flailing and curious footstep patterns."I knew it. I totally knew it." Judith grinned a little scarily. "He has the hots for you and now you're gonna meet, oh yeah~" Ever the sensible little lady, Roxy shook her head, though red and flustered. "We're just meeting, Judy." "Roxy, this is a special moment. I'm allowing my cynical blackened heart to be warmed by your sweet-ass blossoming romance." She spread her arms in an exaggerated shrug. "Don't mess with it." Roxy rolled her eyes and tutted disapprovingly, but inside, her heart was thumping and there were butterflies abound in her stomach. Did that... really just happen?((May leap in and write some nerdiness later if nobody does first due to having to nip off for a bit. NOW ENJOY ))

(( PROF YOUR POSTS ARE SO QUALITY LATELY HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING KOALA+TEA? ;D *lame* ))
Roxy was completely at a loss of what to do. The boy of her dreams had just asked her out to the dance, even though it felt more like he demanded that she went with him. But at this point, she'd take it.
She sat on her bed, sighing as she rested her chin on her hands. What -was- she going to do, anyway? Tart herself up for this boy or play it cool and classy? She really didn't know what greasers liked, would Peanut be alright with her just being her shy, painfully awkward self, or would he prefer a girl who could be chatted up?
"Rox," Judith had brought her friend out of her thoughts, "You're doing that thing again and it's bugging me out."
"Oh, terribly sorry," she straightened up, she always had a habit of spacing out whenever she was deep in thought, "It's just that this is all a bit... well, sudden, don't you think?"
"Pffft," Judith waved the idea away, "Every good thing comes from something spontaneous, right?"
"I suppose you're right, but what am I gonna do now? Should..." she bit her lips and looked away, almost nervous at the very thought, "Should I talk to him now or should I wait until the dance? Would that be too awkward."
"You are a work of art, Rox," Judith put her hands on her smaller friend, "Man, we've got some studying up to do."
"But I've already finished studying for---"
"Not for academics, silly!" Judith really didn't know where to begin with her friend, on one hand, it was pretty adorable how far her nose was stuck in a book. On the other hand, it was baffling how a teenage girl managed to walk through life without ever finding these things out for herself. You'd think a quick Google search on "how to talk to boys" would suffice for the little blonde girl. "For boys! BOYS!"
"Oh." Her face had begun to turn red again.
"Before we get on the subject of talking though, do you have anything at all to wear to the dance?"
Roxy had honestly never thought about the outfit she'd wear. All she was concerned about, up until about half an hour ago, was trying to get out of this dance mess. Now she's in it and with nothing to wear.
Judith could read the look on her friend's face, "What's say we arrange a little shopping trip?" She plopped herself down ungracefully next to her friend on the bed, "I heard Angie's mom has a little boutique in town. We could totes go over and see what they have."
The auto shop was a constant hive of activity, if it there wasn't a car or bike to fix, then Neil or Johnny was yelling at someone (or something). And if that wasn't happening, then you could distinctly hear the sounds of bodies having good romp at the one of the back sheds no problem.
But to Peanut, all he heard was a deafening silence. He was lost in his thoughts, something he hadn't done in a long time.
He had finally done it. He finally did. He felt proud, he felt confident, he felt like he had the world on a string. He had to play this cool, he had to play it like James Dean or Marlon Brando.
He didn't want to scare her off, but he also didn't want her in on how desperately he wanted to hold her hand, brush her hair behind her ear, stroke her brows and hold that cute, tiny waist.
"'EY! PEANUT! YA DON'T HEAR ME CALLIN'?"
His thought were gone and the sound came back like a wave crashing against the rocks.
"COMIN' BOSS!"
