Kay jerked her head in a kind of "C'mon," way. Lane followed easily. Kay sighed in relief. She didn't want to force feed the girl.
x~x~x~x
Out in Bullworth town, Kay walked Lane over to a cafe.
"Sorry, i don't have much cash... Just upgraded my processor and used most of my wages," Kay waffled. "Quad core though, you know? I guess you gotta eat budget if you want your MMORPGS to run as smooth as they should."
Lane looked up at Kay. How could she talk so much yet say so little? The big girl seemed to be filling space, anxiously.
"Ya want a hotdog? I'm havin' a hotdog. I can get ya somethin' else if ya want it though," Kay said quickly.
"Uhh can i decide inside..?" Lane mumbled, looking down again.
"Oh-yeah-of-course." Kay replied, hurriedly. Her cheeks almost flushed.
They walked into the Cafe. It was blissfully empty apart from a few townsfolk sitting around quietly reading newspapers and sipping tea. Kay deliberately picked a seat away from the window and behind a large, tacky fern type plant.
They sat down, Lane looking weary. Kay eyed her as she picked up the menu. Lane's tired, bloodshot eyes slowly raked the choices. Kay stared at her, transfixed with wonder.
"I think I'll have a breakfast." Lane sighed.
"The full English type thing?"
"Yeah... I'm really hungry,"
"Okay, that's cool."
Kay stood and walked over to the counter, placing their order. While she was gone, Lane felt exposed. The girl's height and build made for a nice partition for the rest of the world. Lane drew her shoulders down around herself. She stared down at the menu intently.
Kay returned with soda cans.
"Beam... I hope it's alright," She muttered, sitting down.
"Sure..." Lane said very quietly. Kay opened her can and took a noisy sip. She studied Lane for a time, Lane slowly drinking her drink. (Considerably more gracefully than Kay had)
"So..." Kay said very quietly, leaning in closely. "What's going on with you?"
((Kay is the type of person who pronouces MMORPG. Like Muh-Mor-Puh-Guh))

Lane was shifty during the entire walk.
Was he was out there, or was he in town now? What would he do if he saw her now? Kill her, here, in public? Would this girl let him take her?
And for the life of her she could not figure out what a quad core or a muh-mor-por-age was.
Once they had ordered, it was one of the most surreal moments of her life. Here she was, on the run from her insane brother, and this random girl was buying her breakfast.
In the corner of a diner. Like it was nothing.
It made her head spin... but that could equally be caused by starvation, dehydration, and exhaustion.
Lane seemed to curl into herself, the baggy uniform nearly giving her the appearance of a turtle. She glanced up at Kay, and looked back at her soda, nails anxiously tapping on the can.
"Someone... Someone wants to hurt me. I-I messed up..."
Lane hung her head and buried her fingers in her hair.
Shit. I can't get him in anymore trouble!
"I made a promise, and I broke it." Her voice was cracking.

Kay's eyes were wide.
Shit.
She hunched over further, filling the space between she and Lane with her torso.
"You need help then?" Kay breathed.
"N-No... No, I'm fine... really," She sniffed. Her eyes welled up.
Goddamit please don't cry. Please, god... shit, Aaaand she's crying.
Kay averted her eyes awkwardly. She felt the discomfort roll around in her stomach as she heard Lane's stifled sob. Thankfully, the waitress came over with food.
She looked down at huge, intimidating Kay and tiny vulnerable Lane, sobbing into her hands.
God now i look like a wife abuser...
"The full English," The waitress said stiffly. Kay half heartedly pointed to Lane. "And a hotdog," She put the plate down somewhat carelessly in front of Kay and left sharply.
"So... uhh... do you need help? I can... do whatever you want me to do?" Kay muttered, looking down at the table. To save face, she took a hasty bite of her hotdog. Which was amazing.
Mmmm i fucking love this fucking hotdog.

Lane tried her best to stifle her sobbing; she didn't want to attract attention after all.
"No, no, I'll be fine. You've done so much already."
Meekly, the dark haired girl picked up her fork and began trying her best politely shovel food into her mouth.
Life was grim when you didn't know when your next meal would be.
Kay slammed her huge hands on the table and hopped up from her seat.
"No!" She said sternly, "You can't act like this is nothing!"
Lane's timid form looked up at her, the differences in size and posture were truly astonishing.
Then Kay nervously glanced around. That huffy waitress and the few customers in the diner were giving the pair some concerning looks.
It had gotten eerily quiet.
If she wasn't concerned for Lane dying in the next hour of starvation, the nerd would immediately have dashed out the diner.
Fuck, fuck, we look like a bickering couple!
Once again, Kay shoved her hotdog in her mouth, while Lane stared nervously at her plate.
"A-... Alright. I need to hide."

Kay thought for a moment.
Where the fuck can i hide her?
"I stay at the dorms..." She said quietly. "I can't hide you there... but there are disused buildings in New Cov... I can help you set up a safe house there..?" Kay suggested.

"Would... I really be safe in place like that?"
Kay looked like she could handle herself, but this poor little girl...
She wasn't in a position to turn down any help.

"Look, i know it isn't ideal, but i can't hide you at the dorms. Ms Peabody comes in to check we're being tidy during the day..."
Lane still looked worried.
"I can put you up at a motel, but the types that go there..." Kay trailed off. "Cause i can't afford a good motel... The nerds' basement hideout in Dragon's Wing isn't suitable either... It's... full of the guys really. Although..."
Kay was silent for a moment, while she rammed more hotdog down her throat.
"Hey wait a minute..." Kay said through a mouthful of roll and processed meat.
Charming.
She swallowed.
"Blue skies has an empty trailer. I can totally afford the rent for it..." She suggested very quietly.
((Prepare for Drama?))

"Oh no, no, no!" Lane set her fork down and waved her hands wildly, "I could never ask that much of you! Please, I just want help, not to be a burden. It's not right for me to pull you into this."
I pulled her into this and she's...
"Please, please! He could come for you next. Just somewhere small where you could leave me would be fine."
She buried her face in her hands.

"Trust me, it ain't a problem," Kay replied firmly. She reached over and took Lane's wrist gently. "I only ever spend my money on hotdogs and computer upgrades anyway... my computer's pretty maxed out right about now too. Also... Lane... You don't get much smaller than a trailer..."
~x~x~x~x~~~~~~~~<3
It literally WAS a shelter. The trailer was tiny. Kay was only being set back a handful of dollars for it. No wonder.
"This place is shit, but it's inconspicuous," Kay commented, having to stoop right down. There was a bed. Narrow and slightly damp looking. A tiny gas powered hob and a toilet in a cupboard.
"It's a small place for you to hide alright," Kay grumbled as she bumped her head again. "I could bring you out food every now and then. And don't bother moaning, cause I'm gonna do it either way."
"He might follow you..." Lane squeaked.
"Trust me, girly, I'm a giant. I'm also a giant nerd. Nerds are expected to do crazy things and no one cares about us. Plus, I can handle my own fairly well,"

Lane sat down on the tiny bed, which creaked and groaned beneath her weight. She frowned at it. This was better than the woods though.
"Thank you, so much. I'd probably still be out there or..."
Kay knew where this was going.
"Hey, hey, Lane calm down." She knelt down beside her, gently placing a hand on Lane's knee, "He ain't gonna get you here, and I'm gonna be around to keep an eye on you. Just don't do anything stupid, okay?"
Lane nodded, but she still looked as fearful as when Kay first found her.
"Now this guy," Kay began, "what's he look like?"
There was a sudden tension. Lane shook her head, avoiding eye contact.
This was not getting any easier.

"Ya gotta tell me, girl." Kay growled. She was literally the frailest creature she'd ever encountered.
"I... I don't want you to hurt him." Lane responded, tears welling up.
"I won't." Kay lied quickly. "I just need to know so i can give ya the heads up if he's lurking around,"
"He... ... He looks like me..." Lane breathed. She was beginning to hyperventilate at the memories. Memories... Nightmares... Memories.
Getting ready to dig another hole?
"He's related to ya?" Kay deduced. "Father?" She asked quietly. Kay was yet to encounter a good father...
"No..." Lane whispered. She shifted on the little bed. It moaned in agony. "He's my big brother,"
Kay suddenly decided that she'd rather be crushed by a falling truck than hear whatever horrific happenings had gone on to this little girl. She held up a large hand.
"Save it for another time, okay? I can't get my head around just finding you..." Kay muttered gruffly.
Lane was silent. It was awkward again. Kay looked at her watch. "I'm gonna run. I've got to study..." She mumbled. She was almost ashamed at deserting the girl to look through her over-read-already textbooks, but her studying was her number one priority.
"I'll come back this evening with some more food for you and something to drink. Any preferences?"
"Uhh... cream soda if you can get any... but I'll take anything..." Lane almost smiled at the mention of her favourite drink. But her smile almost slid right off at the flashing picture reel of her big brother holding her hand to take her down to the shops to buy in ice cold can on hot summer days...
"I'll see what i can do," Kay flashed a coy grin. "I'll be back soon."

Lane watched her go sadly. As much as she wanted to beg her savior to stay by her side, it seemed like such a selfish thing to do.
"Goodbye."
She went back to staring at the floor. The sight tore Kay's heart in two.
C'mon girl, you'll be back.
Once Kay had shut the door behind her, Lane stood to lock it.
Not safe enough.
After flashing a couple glances around her new cramped living quarters, she grabbed a discarded fold-up chair that was missing a leg, and shoved it beneath the knob. There really was nothing in the trailer, leaving Lane half-tempted to shove the bed itself against the door. Eventually, she came to terms with the lack of... anything and admitted defeat in the form of laying down. It quickly became obvious that the squeak of the bed was never going to let her get to sleep.
I wish I could just talk to him. I should've help him. I could've helped him. Why did I try to ignore all of those things...
It took several hours, but Lane eventually drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

"Where were you today? You missed Math AND Chemistry," Melvin asked, astounded. Kay shrugged.
Shouldn't tell. Don't want anyone knowing.
"I was feeling sick. I went to the doctor's." She replied.
"And now you're scarfing down potato chips?" Melvin said sceptically.
"Yep. I made a full recovery,"
"Hm."
"Anyway I gotta go into town." Kay said quickly, sweeping her textbooks into her bag. It had been a few hours.
"Oh, I'll go with. I'm heading for Dragon's Wing anyway." Melvin piped up, putting his math books under his arm.
"Aww naw... I'm gonna go into the Vale."
SHIT SHIT SHIT.
"Kay, you spent ALL of your cash on that processor. I KNOW you're not going to the Vale."
"Good point...heh." Kay lied. "I guess I'm going into Bullworth Town then..."
They walked together out of the Library, Melvin chatting away about GnG. Kay's mind wandered while he spoke.
She's gonna be bored. Gotta get her something to do. But what? I don't know what she's into. I could get her a comic... But what to get? If she's a girly girl, she'll want something with pretty art and deep characters... if she isn't, she'll want a copy of something with the words "blood" or "killer" in the title. And what about food... I don't wanna pick up something she's deathly allergic too. That would make a good headline. Girl found dead in trailer under Kay Adam's name. Police are treating it as a suspicious death.
"Kay."
What if she needs like tampons or whatever? What if it's her time of the month..?
"Kay."
"What?"
"Why are you buying cream soda? You hate cream soda. You yelled at Thad for drinking it near you because you could SMELL it." Melvin said, pointing at the pale yellow and pink can in her hand.
"Uh... I changed my mind, i guess," Kay replied, annoyed at his attention to detail.
"And even YOU don't need THAT much junk food?" He pointed at her armfuls of chips, candy, chocolate, microwave meals and canned foods.
"I totally do!" Kay retorted, annoyed.
I actually DO even if it's not all for me this time.
"Melvin, I gotta run. I'm busy," Kay said quickly. She slammed the last of her money down on the counter and as soon as she had her change, she turned on her heel and left.
"You don't even have a social life, how can you be busy?!" Melvin yelled after her, irritated.
Kayignored him, heading straight back to blue skies.

"Willene?"
"Yes, Lane?"
"You should speak up sometimes."
"..."
"What's happening here... it's not right."
"Nothing is forever, Lane."
She looked down at her shoes, tapping lightly against the dirt as the swing drifted her light form back and forth in the breeze. Willene wasn't looking at her. She decided right there that she was never going to let anything happen to him. If he wasn't going to defend himself, then she would have to take matters into her own hands.
But nothing is forever. Several knocks at the door jerked Lane awake.[/i] Oh no. Nononono.Back pressed against the wall, Lane stared wide-eyed at the door. A whisper drifted through the metal, a familiar hiss from earlier today..."Kay?" "Yeah, girly, it's me." Without giving it another thought, Lane quickly scampered to the door to unlock it. She opened in cautiously, examined Kay, with her cocky grin, and pattered aside.

Kay opened her huge red rucksack.
"I have absolutely no idea what food you like, so I brought you some of everything." She announced, beaming, proud of herself.
She emptied the contents haphazardly over the floor, kneeling down to sort it out.
"There's microwave fries, chocolate, instant noodles, beans, cola, iced tea, candy, ready meals... Anything else you want, write a list down and I'll bring it along," She grinned up at Lane. "And what would you prefer as a means of entertainment. I can get you books, magazines, puzzle books? I'm partial to sudoku..."
"Magazines?" Lane perked up a little. "I like fashion magazines..." She admitted.
"Like to look through?"
"I cut them up..."
"..."
"Oh! No! It's not like that..." She gasped, giving a nervous squeak of laughter. "I like cutting them up and redesigning them."
Kay's face relaxed. "Oh right... I still don't really get it, i guess. I'm pretty... out of the social spectrum you see... No one likes me enough out-with my friend circle to care what i look like."
"I'm sorry about that," Lane said slowly, feeling awkward.
"Girly, don't feel sorry, I prefer it that way. I like computers and science." Kay chuckled, opening a bag of candies in multi-colour. She offered the bag to Lane, who took one, unwrapping it slowly.
"So, I'll see what i can do about getting you stuff to do. And I'll check up on you loads to make sure you're okay. So don't worry about things. I'll knock on the door seven times so that you know it's me, right?" Kay exclaimed, a little too excited.
"Okay," Lane nodded. "That's a good idea. Is all this food mine?"
"Yeah, course. We have loads of food down in Dragon's Wing, which is the comic book store in Bullworth Town. That's where you are, by the way. Bullworth." Kay explained.
You're sick Adams.
"I'll stick around Dragon's Wing instead of school. That way it'll only take me twenty minutes to get to here."
You're too happy to have this girl as your secret. She's not your pet.
((Sorry if i messed up, im still really nervous about RPing Lane))
