Lane threw her arms around Kay's neck and curled up against her."Thank you! Thank you so much for everything. If it weren't for you, I'd still be out there." The Nerd was a little taken aback by the sudden physical contact, but she quickly returned the hug."Hey, it's okay now, girly. You're safe." I'll make sure of it.Still coiled against Kay, Lane began munching on her candy."So what do you do? You mentioned comic books, do you just read or do you write stories? Can you code a website? Build a computer? Do you write comics about evil computers enslaving mankind? I like that series about those super cute superheros." Her words were slightly muffled, the sticky candy preventing full conversation.
Kay felt her heart flutter.

((LOL i used to love Totally Spies.))
Kay was extremely flattered by Lane's quick-fire questions and interest in Kay... No one had ever been interested in her before.
"Uhh... heh, i don't write or draw anything, I'm useless at anything creative, truth be told," Kay admitted, chewing on chocolate. "But I can code a website. It's not really my forte if I'm honest. I'm good at coding programs... Little games. I like comic books about fantasy adventures..." Kay suddenly became aware that she was boring and her eyes darted to Lane, who was still listening, watching, her eyes wide with wonder.
"That's amazing... I thought it was only people who like, worked in companies that could code things... you must be like SUPER clever or something." She said, doe eyed.
Kay grinned to herself. She wasn't very modest. "I am... I guess so anyway. I'm good at math, physics, chemistry and biology too. Physics is my favourite though. I really wanna be a physicist when i finish school and university,"
"That's a big job," Lane replied, thinking.
"What about you?"
"If i had any choice..." Lane looked momentarily sad again. "I'd be an editor for a magazine on fashion- in fact, I'd run my own magazine." She smiled at the thought. "That would be brilliant."
"You're cute," Kay muttered.
"What?" Lane asked, snapping out of her fantasy of being the owner of a new Vogue.
"Nothing." Kay said quickly, her face burning up. "You should tell me more about you. I'm fairly boring..."
And you're funny... and cute when you get all enthusiastic like that.

Lane grabbed for one of the magazines Kay had purchased, "I wouldn't say so, really. I had two parents, a brother, a happy home.." She twisted a lock of hair around a finger as she skimmed the pages.
Had.
Kay frowned, at the implied misery. This girl was so sweet; what could she have done to deserve this? Such a normal teenager, interested in all the things giggly females like Angie and Christy swooned for. Hell, she probably had the guys lined up back at her school...
The Nerd wasn't sure why she felt her heat sink.
Because that means that someone else may be looking for her. That could be dangerous.
She took a large bite of her candy bar as she flipped through all of the cheesy chase flicks in her mind. Things always got messy when you had more than one pursuer.
She cleared her throat, "So would anyone else be after you? Like, a concerned friend or anything?"
Lane looked back up at her new friend, her head tilted curiously, "No, I didn't really have a lot of friends at my school. Although I suspect the police have been alerted about my absence."
She turned back to her book, black hair draped over her profile.
No friends? She must have been apart of some merciless institution that fed upon the weakness of kind little girls.
A school kinda like Bullworth.
Kay grimaced at the thought.
"I cannot believe these shoes are back in style..."
Lane spoke, mainly to herself.
Kay froze.
Shitshitshit, not fashion!
